[Leaning back into his seat, arms folded. It causes him to wince.]
Murdered someone in the early weeks, but because of a mix-up -- [ie the sheer incompetence of the castle] -- he wasn't killed for his crime. Then he stuck around paying off his debt by trying to be useful to us.
Not sure if feeling repentant's in his repertoire. Akira sure seems protective of him, but I sure as shit don't know why. They're from the same world though, so? [ a shrug. ash carbide does not understand. ]
He never killed in the mansion though. Admittedly, it was more us versus the giant murder mansion than a free for all, so all bets are off for if he would've killed someone if it wasn't.
[It's not so much Sanji defending Akechi, but he still feels compelled to speak the truth about the little turd]
Full of himself, runs off at the mouth, opportunistic as hell, but he's just a kid whose trying to stay afloat and look bigger than he is. I'm not surprised Akira likes him.
[ CAN'T YOU SEE HIS "AKECHI SALT CLUB" BADGE, SANJI? ]
I've met people like him, and they spend too much time crawling around trying to play the world at their own game and struggling with the consequences when they hit home. I think Akira just feels responsible for the whole damn world and it's gonna drag him down if he's not careful.
[Sanji merely snickers at Ash's contempt because, well... he gets it. Akechi might've never pissed him off too badly, but he saw the effect he had on other people.
... Though as for Akira:]
That's his own cross to bear. If Akechi gets to be punished for caring too little, Akira better watch out when he cares too much.
You’re not telling me anything I don’t know, is what I’m saying. Maybe he’s more prone to it, but look me in the eye and tell me you didn’t lose someone you got annoyingly fond of back where you were last.
And my point is there's gonna be consequences to that when you go out of your way to build connections. Sure as hell don't remember me saying anyone was immune to giving a shit.
Something about life or death has an annoying habit of forming bonds whether you want them to or not. [ it sucks. ] I guess people like Akira just form the bonds and think about the outcome later.

What.

[Spoken out of irritation, and he combs a hand through his hair-- but there's no need to hide the truth in this case, so:]
So there was one where you came from, too? Different versions of the same guy...?

You had to deal with the detective too?

...
Huh.
Did he kill on purpose, or was he kinda forced into it?
no subject
So he did as he was ordered, but wasn't exactly feeling repentant until he was caught.

Right, ‘cause shit like that didn’t happen last time. [ c’mon, this is no one’s first rodeo. ]

[Just to underscore the point that he's not here to criticize a guy he doesn't even know, especially since... well. It doesn't matter, he decides.]
Just a dangerous one, sometimes.
