[It's sunny. And hot. And perhaps not the best weather to take a nap in while you're unabashedly unconscious.
... Which is too bad, seeing as Sanji's passed out under a tree located at the village's edge - clothes dirty and ruffled, no doubt collecting more dirt as he rolls in his uncomfortable slumber, the crook of his arm covering his eyes.
Go on. Wake him up. Be a good Samaritan.
And hell, even if you don't, Sanji will eventually stumble upon you -- or into you, if that's your thing. Later in the day he'll be all over the village insisting he's fine, no he's not drunk so stop trying to escort him back to bed. B| He can walk it off.]
[ooc: MALLYNAP EFFECT. Touch him and your character will share a memory with Sanji. It can be a memory of his or a memory of your character's; just specify in the subject line what you prefer. |D Any memory is free game, and the scope of it is at our discretion, but keep in mind both characters will view it until the memory ends or they escape the "boundary". (Just imagine the memory as a bubble and if a character walks far enough for whatever reason, they pop it.) Also note they're still in Luceti - no teleporting anywhere. Just assume the characters are mostly slack-jawed and staring at a tree for the duration.
I also endorse all time-breaking. Tis but a flimsy wall in our way.]

I could go either way with the memories C:
Ven, curious and a little concerned, slowly makes his way over, crouching down right next to him.]
Sanji?
[Cautiously, he'll reach out for his shoulder.]
How about one of Ven's? 8D
But a touch has been confirmed. Luceti abruptly disappears. Hold onto something, a memory is not far off the horizon]
I'm on it o>
The boy, a younger version of Ven, looks up at the man with a fearful expression.
"Please don't do this, Master! I'm not strong enough."
"No, it is because you're trying to hold it in..."]
What the...?
[Ven frantically looks around, first at his surroundings, then at Sanji. Briefly, he tries giving him a light shake. Meanwhile, the memory continues as Master Xehanort gazes down at Ven's past self.
"Let the dark impulses waken in the pit of your heart. Release them here and now; sharpen your fear into rage!"
Whatever's happening here, it doesn't bode well.]

Oi! Why are Heartless here!? [Heavily faded though they are, Sanji has recollections of these bastards. None of them are pleasant. The only thing that halts him in his steps are that there are-- what, two Vens? And Sanji's never seen that wrinkly old bastard before.
What is going on?]

As for the Heartless, Ven frowns, bringing a hand to his chin.]
I'm not sure. Something feels off about all this...
["If you do not let the storm within you run its course, it will wipe you from the face of the world, make no mistake."
More Heartless appear around Ven's past self, slowly inching towards him with their claws at the ready.
The old man continues his speech...
"Do it. Embrace the darkness. Produce for your Master the χ-blade!"
The Heartless leap onto Ven's past self; he doesn't even raise his weapon to fight back. Almost immediately, Ven stumbles forward, and his eyes widen. This is...!]
No! This can't be real... It just can't!
[He winces as the Heartless thrash at his past self.]

Sanji finds his footing and stands rigid, though not yet launching himself at the scene. This isn't real, he's already come to realize, as much as the vision twists his stomach. A nightmare of some sort? A memory? What the hell is the χ-blade? The questions run circles in his head as he watches.
But then the other's sudden outburst breaks Sanji free of his reverie; now it's the chef holding a hand out for him] Ven...

[Ven doesn't even hesitate in taking his hand, breathing deeply. This is definitely a memory. There's no way it could be anything else, but how is this happening in the first place? Some kinda Shift?
Well, all they can really do as watch as the old man comes down, dismisses the Heartless and slowly trudges towards the unconscious Ven. He gazes down at him and narrows his eyes.
"Really? You would rather die than use the power? Feckless neophyte."
He gives him a light kick, rolling him onto his back. Seconds later, a black Keyblade materializes in his grasp.
"If I must, I will extract the darkness from within you myself."
The man holds his Keyblade over the younger Ven's chest, striking him with a beam of light. He lets out a gasp, as a small piece of his heart floats into the air, shrouded in a whirlwind of darkness. Soon, that darkness fades, revealing a very familiar boy clad in dark armor. Vanitas. The younger Ven's eyes glaze over, as he drifts into unconsciousness. Vanitas floats down to the ground, and the old man speaks once more.
"Empty creature from Ventus riven, to you, the name 'Vanitas' shall be given."
"Yes, Master."
All Ven can do is stare as the memory comes to an end. This was the end of his old life as Master Xehanort's apprentice and what set his fate into motion.]

The terror who made his daughter's life a hell and had to be killed came from Ventus's heart? He can't--
The greater the light, the darker the shadows cast. Right? The truth of it echoes in a voice that is his own, but from a different reality, and Sanji sucks in a quiet, seething breath.]
... Is it true? [of course it's true. Even still, Sanji asks him, watching Ven in his peripheral.]

[Ven heaves a heavy sigh, bringing a hand to his chest. He can't bring himself to look Sanji in the eye right now; after all, seeing those past events so clearly was more than a little unsettling.]
I didn't know it at first. Not until I came here, but he was a part of me all along.
no subject
Even so... [He stares more fully at the other] You're not like him, either.
[It's said, perhaps, for Sanji's benefit more than Ven's - a reminder that he won't hold Ven accountable for Vanitas' crimes. Being a part of someone doesn't make them the same.]
no subject
[He musters up a weak smile, shrugging lightly.]
And I wouldn't be who I am today, if it weren't for him. Because we got separated, I wound up with Master Eraqus, and I met my best friends. Even if I lost all my memories, I wouldn't have it any other way.
no subject
Oi, Ven... who was that old geezer?
no subject
[He winces.]
My old Master. I... don't really know much about him, but what I do know is that he wanted to start a huge war, and he needed me to do it.
[Everything else is a blank. Forgotten; he's really just limited to that one memory and what he's heard secondhand.]

no subject
Yeah. It's supposed to be one of the toughest Keyblades around.
[And, for some reason, is pretty much pronounced the same. Talk about confusing.]
no subject
How could you possibly start an entire war with just one keyblade...?
no subject
[But why was it again? Give him a second; he's trying to work out all the details.]
It's super powerful, and I think the connection it has with Kingdom Hearts was gonna shake the balance of the worlds.

[That he knows of, anyway. After all, two hearts, one of pure light, one of pure darkness. That's not something you stumble upon every day.]
It's hard to believe, but we've already forged it once. I think that's proof enough.

[He laughs sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck.]

Well, the whole χ-blade stuff was a lot to wrap my head around, too. Especially since I couldn't remember any of it.
Plus all the people from the future... I guess it is a lot to take in!
no subject
Oh, you mean like Xion and Roxas?

[It's still weird to grasp. Keybearers without teachers? What even!]
