[Even with that happy(?) ending and seeing Elicia restored back to her body - crying and shaken, but alive - all Sanji does is thank God when the memory ends, and the air seems to rush into Sanji's lungs the moment they snap back to reality. Very slowly he eases his grip around the girl, hastily reminding himself that it was a memory, just a memory, and it's over.

It's still several seconds before he thinks to speak. And not once does he let her go]

Elicia-chan, it's okay. [Just a soft murmur. He smooths some of her hair back and takes another deep breath] We're back now.

[Nami's reactions beside him, and the fact that this is no doubt a very vivid and painful reminder for her, go largely unnoticed by the chef. Too busy transfixed with this most gruesome play, he stares wide-eyed and ashen-faced, dread flooding his stomach when the fighting starts. He doesn't catch the subtle discrepancies in Aku's acting, and by the time Usopp and Robin are wiped from the battle, he doesn't need to.

That son of a bitch.

The sight of his "own" death is what has Sanji finally flinching his head away in a new direction; thus he is spared having to watch his captain die in front of him. What he sees instead is Nami, hands curled over her ears and eyes scrunched tight, and his boiling blood stills instantly in the face of what this memory is probably doing to her. Gods, and he did this to her, too.]

Nami-san, I-- [The words catch in his throat, though soon enough it doesn't matter. He scoots what little distance there is between them and hugs her from behind, for his own guilty peace of mind and to shield her away from any part of the memory that he can.]
