Week 5 | Wednesday

[Sanji has no business in the laboratory given he's no chemist. His reason for being here is to fetch one of his friends something or other, and it just so happens that along the way--

He spotted his gaudy ass lighter hidden under one of the tables. With a little bending and wiggling, it won't be too hard to grab, but that doesn't stop Sanji from swearing the entire time.

He is entirely leggy. Why must he do this]

Just watch it disappears the moment I touch it...! Tch.

[ would sanji believe him if waver said that this wasn't the first time (before the castle) that he's been stuck in a magical bubble?

either way, he is actually not surprised. if anything, he's...annoyed. annoyed and a little concerned ]

I should've expected something like this. [ eyeroll ] Sanji, you okay?

[ the sight of the tall man sends a shiver down waver's spine. it's neither the king of heroes or the king of knights, but the aura he gets from this person is the same.

in the back of his head, he wants to tell the two in the memory to run, although he thinks that it might be for naught. someone of this strength can probably kill them even if they try to escape.

and then he hears sanji's voice, telling them to run, and waver's gaze immediately turns to him as the memory turns to white. logically, things turned out well. but seeing something like that...

the memory shifts. it's no longer a ship, but something like a yard in an apartment complex. it looks worn down-- depressing, too. the owner of the memory looks down, at a small lump of recently piled up earth. considering that the person is holding a shovel, it's obvious that they buried something. too small for a person. perhaps an item?

the perspective switches, to a young girl whose face is hidden underneath a dark hood. she speaks, her voice quiet and meek. ]

I don't understand.

You don't need to understand. [ the voice is clearly waver's. he sounds tired, more so than usual ] Such is just a trap of the mind. If you wish to follow the path of magecraft, you don't have time to get caught up in these kinds of things.

[ he turns back to the small mound of earth, a sigh escaping his lips. ]

If you ask any student, you will probably get the same answer. For starters, if I had been a skilled Magus, healing those kinds of injuries should have been possible. For not getting there in time, the one who didn't have the necessary power was me, after all.

Generally speaking, the feeling of satisfaction gained from saving something is simply a misrecognition of the heart. Even if you help someone, it's not like that helps you. And if it saves yourself, you can't know whether you really helped that person. Misunderstandings, miscommunications, disagreements, false understandings. This laughable repetition is what makes up the world we live in.

[ there's a pause. waver closes his eyes momentarily, and then opens them again. ]

But even so, we live in that world of misunderstanding. We are misrecognition. Our world itself is misunderstanding. We can experience a multitude of truths, not just one single reality. No matter how wise you are, or how much time you are given, you will never reach something like a single truth. [ he chuckles ] Magi may just be those who continually reject that fact.

[ then, he turns to the hooded girl who continues to stare at him with a confused gaze. waver doesn't mind, though. ] If you forget that, and recklessly pursue a lone truth-- My Lady, it would do you well to remember that that itself may truly be what makes you into the worst kind of person.
