concasse. o/ Probably because we're too busy/lazy to make a post or a separate log. [written], [voice/video], and [action] are all fair game - just mark the method of communication and the date in the subject line.

[Mid-afternoon, Vivi breezes into Seventh Heaven, a covered plate in her hands. She waves off the server that heads over to meet her as she enters. This is not a usual trip to the restaurant for her.]

[She looks around, pleased to see that it's relatively empty at this time of day--she hadn't wanted to interrupt if Sanji were busy, so she'd purposely chosen a time that seemed likely to be quiet. Her quick scan of the place gave no glimpse of Sanji either, so she assumes he must be in the kitchen. She pauses for a moment, debating between sending a worker back to fetch him or just going herself. She ultimately settles on the latter; it'll be more fun if she can surprise him. Her mind made up, she begins to head toward the back.]

[She'll find Sanji in the back, dutifully washing some dishes now that the rush is over. And unlike Vivi, he'd love for a bit more traffic. He knows what day it is -- and with the Valentine's experiment fresh in his mind like a still-tender wound, he can't bring himself to care one way or another. Turning twenty-two is no landmark in their world, after all. It's more like the beginning of those birthdays you don't really want but faithfully acknowledge because hell, at least you're not dead.

... Shit, anymore of this and he's gonna sound like a cynical old man. That at least makes him smirk, unaware of Vivi's presence]

[It looks as if he hasn't noticed her yet, so Vivi quietly creeps closer. When she's near enough that she no longer trusts the running water to mask her approach, she stops, raising the plate.]

Surprise!

[AAAAAAAAAAAAH--]

[Vivi he's a smoker; his heart can't take surprises! He also has a death grip on the counter when he swerves around, looking dumbstruck by the sudden nakama in his kitchen. Who where why what even--] Vivi-chan??

[... Oh, she has a plate in her hand. Um. Now he's dumbstruck for another reason]

You remembered? [You made him something?]

[...welp. She wasn't expecting quite such a big reaction. Whoops.]

[Though as his words sink in, her expression changes from sheepish to mock-affronted.]

...of course I remembered! [She pulls the cover off the plate, revealing a small cake, frosted rather simply with cream cheese, a single candle stuck in the center of it.]

[Oh?--Oooooh. Oho. Sanji creeps over to inspect this cake, currently awestruck instead.

And then, he just looks delighted] You made this for me? Is it the spice cake?

[Vivi nods, a smile creeping onto her face at his reaction. Honestly, she hadn't expected him to be quite so happy about her simple offering.]

Mikan spice cake. It was sort of an experiment, but I think it turned out all right. [Or so she hopes. She'd just added some pulpy juice and a bit of grated peel for a hint of flavor, and mixed some into the frosting as well. Preliminary taste tests seemed positive, but Sanji would have to make the final call.]

[And it's a dish he's never tasted before. This is a rare occasion, even if Vivi doesn't realize that. He's already on the move for plates, a knife, and two forks, grinning the entire time]

Well then, let's taste it~!

Wait! [She holds up a finger, wagging it from side to side.] You're forgetting something, aren't you?

[Honestly, she's not sure how well he remembers the time he'd spent with her as a small child, but Vivi's amused by the way the situation has reversed. He'd admonished her then for attempting to cut her birthday cake before he'd sung to her or she'd made a wish, and she can't resist turning the tables on him now.]

[He has noooo idea what she's referring to at first, and glances up uncertainly from his quest for silverware.] Did I...? [Forks, knives, plates... Do they need anything else?

Clearly he needs a moment for irony to come and bite him. And then he really wants to travel back in time so he can punt his bratty self in the head.

He very nearly tells Vivi she doesn't have to sing, except he's also certain she'd mock-glare him into his seat. Might as well save her a step; Sanji lowers the plates and silverware, laughing to himself] Right, right. How could I forget?

[That's more like it. Vivi nods her approval, then takes a breath and begins to sing--a bit softly, more because she doesn't know if Sanji would want the rest of the staff to hear. As the song comes to an end, she gives a satisfied smile, and holds out her hand.]

Could I borrow your lighter, please?

[Considering the slightly private nature of this meeting, Sanji is grateful she uses an inside voice when singing. His birthday isn't a secret - there are quite a few people outside the crew who know by now - but there's something appealing in keeping the knowledge solely among his circle of friends and nakama for this year.

He's still grinning when she finishes, and hands the lighter over without a word and just a brow arched in amusement. He knows what's coming next.]

[A quick flick of the lighter and the lone candle on his cake is lit. A faint crackling and some small sparks as the wick burns may give away the fact that it's one of those trick candles Usopp told her about, if Sanji recognizes it. She beams, handing the lighter back to him.]

Make a wish!

[Perhaps if Vivi were Usopp, the tell-tale cackle would earn more than an intrigued glance. Maybe it's some special birthday candle she found at the Item Shop? It's not like he can tell, seeing as it's been two years since he shared this occasion with his nakama.]

Alright, got it! [Wish decided, he bends down and proceeds to blow out the candle. Yay~!]

[... Before it flickers right back into being]

[... Oh hell, she didn't--]

[Yeah she... totally did. Got him in one.

...

...]

Y'know, I'm starting to think you took lessons from Usopp.

Usopp-san might have given me the idea for the candle. I wanted to see if it would work!

[Sanji smiles.

Like a shark.

Vivi, you've officially doomed the sniper upon return. Sanji will kick him in the face before he gives him a bro-pat on the back - and of course offer no explanation]

I'd say his idea was a smashing success~!

[Vivi giggles, unaware of the fate she's doomed Usopp to. She touches her thumb and forefinger to her tongue to wet them and snuffs the candle out.]

What did you wish for?

Vivi-chan, I can't tell you that! [He sounds aghast by the very idea] Then it won't come true!
