[Action, March 9th]
[Richard doesn't wave in return; merely makes his way over to the other and plops down on the barstool next to him looking more than a little distracted. He's still so busy sorting through the thoughts in his head and trying to process this that conversation will likely take a bit of coaxing on Sanji's part.
... that or just get a couple of drinks in him and he'll start talking.]
[Action, March 9th]
The first thing Sanji does is scoot a drink in Richard's direction - blue, and potent. They can talk later after helping Richard drive closer towards inebriated bliss.
... This is immediately not the smartest thing to do for a friend who is probably a bundle of confused thoughts and nerves, but fuck it. The "smart" thing can come later]
[Action, March 9th]
It may not be the smartest thing for Sanji to do, but it will go a long way towards getting Richard to relax. Alcohol is perhaps the best way to get him to be open and honest, not that he'll admit this to anyone else, much less himself.]
[Action, March 9th]
[Action, March 9th]
Right now he really just wants to be good and drunk. What Sanji might think about that fact doesn't really matter to him.]
[Action, March 9th]
... Oi, don't go choking on me.
[Action, March 9th]
I think I'll survive.
[Action, March 9th]
[... Okay, he might not be referring to the alcohol anymore, judging by the tone and the subtle, assessing stare he tosses Richard's way]
[Action, March 9th]
[Surviving is one of the things Richard is best at, after all. He's nothing if not tenacious as hell-- he's had to be, after his childhood.
But from the look on his face... well, he may be tenacious, but he's not invincible.]
[Action, March 9th]
Does he remember? [He leans forward, arms rested on the face of the table.]
[Action, March 9th]
I'm not sure. He said he didn't when I asked, but... he didn't seem surprised that I knew him, either.
[Another little smile.]
Perhaps it's better this way.
[Action, March 9th]
But if he does remember? [What will you do?
Heh, is there anything he can do?]
[Action, March 9th]
Even a king can't command someone to feel a certain way, nor can he demand forgiveness of someone else, especially where it's not deserved.
[Action, March 9th]
[Sanji was more than prepared to nod and let that go. But what's all this "not deserved" shit he's hearing?]
[Action, March 9th]
[There's a different tone to his voice now, stern and commanding, closer to what he uses in an official capacity.]
Don't be angry with him on my behalf. I know quite well what it feels like when trust is broken, and how hard it can be to repair.
[He'd hated Asbel for the very same thing, hadn't he?]
[Action, March 9th]
I don't play favorites.
[Action, March 9th]
[And his voice goes quiet again, softer and with what almost sounds like a plea.]
I don't want to make things worse.
[He'd done a fine enough job of that much himself.]
[Action, March 9th]
Jeez. [He unceremoniously slams back the rest of his drink, welcoming the burn] I'm not gonna pick a fight with him. [Nevermind Naoki is a strong bastard, according to his memory. But while the chef certainly disagrees with the way their break-up was handled, Naoki just got back -- and really, this isn't any of Sanji's business. It's up to Naoki and Richard to make amends, if they decide to. He can only watch from the sidelines]
He's my friend.
[Action, March 9th]
Forgiveness is something that needs to be earned. The six months I spent back in my world taught me that much.
[He's still working to atone for what he did back there. It will take months, if not years, to pay off Windor's debt entirely, and even then there are likely to be people who will never forgive him for it.]
[Action, March 9th]
What happened in your world?
[He doesn't know, and therefore doesn't realize the type of question he's asking]
[Action, March 9th]
[There's no point in lying or covering it up, because it's his fault and it's his responsibility to set things right now.]
[Action, March 9th]
You're serious.
[Action, March 9th]
[His smile grows thin, pained. It's not something he's proud of at all.]
Does that surprise you?
[Action, March 9th]
... That said, it's not with disgust he regards Richard. Just befuddlement. The king sees the impact of his actions, and regrets his choices; Sanji can tell that much]
Why?
[Action, March 9th]
Back then... I truly hated the entire world that much.
[He can only guess at what Sanji must be thinking right now, and it's because of this that he doesn't dare turn his head to look at the other man.]
