003↠ ACTION/VOICE -- Chibi free for all
[ooc note: Okay, here's the deal, folks. Rather than create two posts for chibi!Sanji and risk losing my tags (because it would happen, trust me), this is the only entry I'll put up. I'm going to leave it up to you what age Sanji will be when your character(s) run into him. I put out the scenarios, and you guys run with them. |D Don't be afraid to be creative, I don't mind. Just mention the age in the subject line. If you want more than one chance to tag, create another thread, and specify the new age. |D Easy, yes? Possible ages are 11 through 20. Possible dates are February 3 through the 12. I am fine with either voice or action, though if it's voiced, it'll be assumed your character contacted Sanji through the journals first.
Ladies who volunteered to be crushed on! The applicable ages for that are 14 and up. But of course, you can interact with a younger version of Sanji if you want.
And also, bear with me on the icon front. >> There are plenty pictures of Sanji as a child and an adult, but not much in-between. U-use your imagination? ;A;]
[Nights have been rough so far, with strange dreams lingering on after his eyes have opened. And it makes him feel... different, somehow, like his life has altered in leaps and bounds. Skills that weren't accessible before, come to him easily. There are recipes in his head that shouldn't be there. He almost wishes he could tell someone about them; maybe one of the crew, eventually. They're nice enough, and have been more than accommodating, taking him in like this.
These thoughts are heavy to carry, but he's still a young boy suddenly trapped in a weird town with weird things. His attention isn't meant to dwell on problems for long. The goal to find Zeff eventually lessens to a dull ache, and Sanji busies himself with exploration: this Seventh Heaven restaurant, for one, and maybe the grocery store. He visits the item shop on a the fickle whim of a curious child, and eventually finds his way to the forest. He won't run away, though. He promised himself he wouldn't try anymore.]
[And in just a few days, Sanji finds himself forced to leave adolescence behind. It's more than a little obvious that something isn't right. While the crew has probably mentioned the nature of experiments, all the explanations in the world aren't gonna make this any less awkward, as he speeds through growth spurts and into sore, lanky limbs. He's grumpy half the time, flustered as well... which seems to happen like clockwork, whenever a pretty girl is nearby. He spends the majority of these days as red as a tomato and resorting to petty insults if it will get people out of his hair. When it gets hard to control, he seeks solitude to practice stretching and single-sparring. Or perhaps Nami. She's going through the same thing, too.
House 6 and Seventh Heaven are still his main places of solace. He considers himself a worthy enough cook by now, though he will often yield to Yukito's directions. He's broadened his explorations, however; he heavily frequents the forestplains, and will use the teleporters to sneak off to the ocean, when he feels like it.]
[Given enough time, the strangest of circumstances stop being strange, and turn into a compromised status-quo. Sanji barely gives any attention to his nightly dreams now - they come and he changes, both mentally and physically. His temper is still hot as ever, but slowly being tempered by a knack for cunning and kindness. Even his initial anxiety around women has all but disappeared - he eagerly greets them now, with what the residents might note to be his usual enthusiasm. Still rough around the edges and prone to silliness (or hormone spikes), but that's Sanji for you.
He knows the entire village layout, and you can find him anywhere: item shop, grocery, clothing store, battle dome, forest, ocean... He finds a reason to visit them all because sometimes, it's easier walking blindly, even when you don't really have a place to go to.]

[Beach - age 14]
Except not really, even if Sanji's first instinct is to duck and dodge and just get the hell out of the way. It's an instinct he suppresses, however; subtle tactics are his weak-point at this stage in his training, but facing straight-up offensive?
No way he can back down from that.
He rushes at her, matching her stride, always keeping a wary eye on the slashers but showing no signs of changing course.
He's waiting for her next move]
[Beach - age 14]
[Beach - age 14]
He's feeling pretty proud of his accomplishment when he lands without a scratch... save for the fact he'd been forced to slow down - not halted, as he's still coming for her, but she certainly broke through a large part of his momentum.]
[Beach - age 14]
[Nothing to do but lower her stance and rush the remaining distance to him, hoping to slam a shoulder into his torso--if nothing else, maybe she can knock the wind out of him with the force of her momentum.]
[Beach - age 14]
You can kick her, y'know.
Yes, he could. Seeing as he's more at home with close-combat and she's currently without her slashers, if there was ever a moment to strike back, now is it. Side-step. Follow up with a back-sweep at her back. Use that momentum against her. The voice belongs not to him, but to that gruff old bastard, as if he were watching the proceedings with a critical eye. And Sanji knows that voice is right; if all went according to plan, she'd go flying into the sand. This victory would be his.
Yeah, that's what he'll do. He'll just... he'll... He--
He doesn't want to.
Sanji freezes up at the last second, in the moment when he should be side-stepping out of the way before Vivi can pummel her shoulder into his stomach. Ironically, that he steels himself out of stress keeps him from being knocked back too far, but he drops to one knee and makes no move to shield himself, or pursue her.
And that makes him all the more ashamed of himself right now.]
[Beach - age 14]
[She flicks the blade away instantly, loosening the wire around his neck. A little worried now.] Sanji-san?
[Beach - age 14]
I'm sorry, Vivi-san! I-- [The explanation catches in his throat, earning a growl of discontent and frustration and shame. That, more than anything - the naked shame of feeling like he's about to do something inconceivably horrid, that he should throw himself into the ocean and drown - tenses his muscles until he shoulders scrunch up around his ears.] I'm really sorry.
[He's letting her down and hates himself for it]
[Beach - age 14]
[She lets a hand drop onto his shoulder, suddenly quite mindful of his youth. Had she overestimated his abilities? That didn't seem right. Though unpolished, he was clearly still skilled, and strong besides; that shoulder to his solar plexus shouldn't have done much damage. Yet he still hasn't moved.]
[Crossing to the front of him, she drops to her knees on the sand, trying to interpret his expression.] You didn't do anything you have to apologize for. [She extends a hand, putting a little light pressure under his chin to try and get him to meet her eye.] Are you all right?
[Beach - age 14]
I'm okay. [He flicks up his eyes to meet hers briefly, before they retreat like frightened deer.] It's... [Words fail to fill in the blanks, until he falls back on a shrug and pulls back the slightest] I've never sparred with anyone before.
[Which is the truth. The weird dreams aside, Sanji hasn't started the bulk of his training with Zeff. Vivi's the first real opponent he's ever faced]
[Beach - age 14]
[She tries to give him an encouraging smile, though he's still avoiding her gaze.] We can stop here. Call it a draw.
[Beach - age 14]
[Voice high-pitched and nearly cracking from shame, he winces and pulls back promptly.] I mean... [His tone settles a few amps above a whisper] I want to, Vivi-san.
[It might be obvious that half his plea stems from wanting to please the girl in front of him, despite the knots in his stomach having yet to unravel. And the thought of actually hitting her nearly rolls a shudder down his back. But...]
Can we try one more time?
[Beach - age 14]
Are you sure you want to? [She's not entirely convinced, Sanji.]
[Beach - age 14]
[Beach - age 14]
She turns her back to him, walking further up the beach to put some distance between them. For a moment, she thinks about maybe just letting him win this round, but dismisses that immediately. He'll probably be able to tell if she holds back that much, and she imagines that would be a worse sting to his pride than if she beats him again. Really, it's not guaranteed she'll be able to win even trying her best, considering she's avoiding any cutting moves and Sanji, while inexperienced, is still stronger than her and maybe faster as well. No, she resolves. This last match will be fought in earnest.]
[Turning back to face him after what seems like a suitable distance, Vivi slips her hands into her pockets and retrieves her Slashers.]
Ready, Sanji-san?
[Beach - age 14]
The thought barely has a chance to form further before Sanji grits his teeth and stomps it out with effort, also climbing to his feet. No, he's insulted Vivi enough already; handing her a half-assed victory would be too much, even for him. She's a fighter, she ,asked for this spar. He has no choice but to treat her like any other opponent.
Even if it kills him, he's going to make this one count. He waits, counting off the seconds until her weapons are in place, and then with just a nod in her direction - he's ready - Sanji launches forward in a mad dash, aimed directly for her]
[Beach - age 14]
[Beach - age 14]
[Beach - age 14]
[Abruptly she shifts her stance, throwing an attack in his direction. If she's judged the distance right, it should fall just short, at most slicing his shirt if he doesn't manage to dodge back in time. At any rate, she wants it clear she intends to go on the attack here.]
[Beach - age 14]
He doesn't waste time. Shifting his own stance, Sanji turns and runs dead at her, knowing there's one other peacock slasher that can put him out of commission if he's not careful. But he's ready, and waiting to see what she does. He'll come to another dead stop if he has to.]
[Beach - age 14]
[Her first shot goes rather wide of him, which is exactly what she intended. Her true target lies beyond him in the sand. Still, though he's on the attack, she doesn't want him to glance back and see what she's about. Doing so would also leave him vulnerable, of course, but given his inexperience, Vivi won't leave it to chance. As her other slasher comes back, she extends its arc into a loop and throws it right back out at him, hoping to keep his attention. In the little time she has, and given most of her precision is concentrated on her other blade, she doesn't have time to aim carefully. Knowing this, she doesn't put much power behind her throw; even so, if the razor-sharp blade makes contact with him, there's a good chance he'll be bleeding.]
[Meanwhile, she feels the satisfying change in slack as her other Slasher finds its target--wrapping neatly around a large chunk of driftwood on the beach. She immediately tugs with all her strength, her arm going in an arc above her head to adjust the recoil. This is her plan. Provided Sanji doesn't make a major change in his trajectory in the next couple of seconds, he's about to be hit hard upside the head with a heavy chunk of wood.]
[Beach - age 14]
Too bad it's only a sneaking suspicion, not enough to elicit a check behind his back, and Sanji realizes his mistake too late when a sharp pain erupts from his skull, dull and heavy and very familiar.
... It's precisely for that last reason that the teenager doesn't do anything more than stumble for about two seconds, hands clutched in hair that's suddenly sticky with blood. Vivi's aim is true, and her plan successful, but at the end of the day, a piece of driftwood just doesn't compare to the monstrous strength that is Zeff's foot. If nothing else, the ex-pirate has already taught his pupil (in dreams or otherwise) the value of a thick skull.
Maybe if he were aware of the fact, Sanji would lift his head and smirk in triumph, but no - jeered on by a voice that's not his, or Vivi's, but gruff and demanding and extremely unimpressed at his inexperience, Sanji grits his teeth and continues his sprint, expression more rigid and irritated than it's meant to be. He's running like he's got something to prove now.
Unless Vivi's got another trick up her sleeve, Sanji plans on closing the last of that distance between them and launching a side swipe at her upper arm.]
[Beach - age 14]
[She does her best to roll with the impact, following through in the same direction Sanji's sideswipe pushes her, diving to one side. Still, her teeth practically rattle, and she's sure she'll be sporting a large bruise for the next week. She doesn't expect him to give her much time to recover, so she goes into a tuck-and-roll, leaping back up the moment her feet again reach the ground. Her left arm is still stinging with the impact, and she drops the ring of that peacock slasher, knowing even if she could disentangle it from the driftwood, she won't be throwing anymore attacks with it any time soon. Instead she tugs hard on the other line, whirling it back out in a wide loop she hopes will buy her some time to get her bearings.]
[Beach - age 14]
--Woman.
He jerks up short, leg still extended and the word thudding a drum beat in his skull while the blood rapidly rushes out of his face - she's a girl - and Sanji sees that desperate move, can assume it's coming with her other slasher out of commission, and he needs to dodge instead of standing there poised like an idiot with his leg in the air - you hit a girl - and what saves him is blind autopilot, urging his body to duck out of the way before he's hit again - the hell is wrong with you shithead you hit a girl--
He doesn't stop, can't stop. Numb fear keeps him running from his own thoughts as he darts closer to Vivi again, prepared to kick her in the other arm.]
[Beach - age 14]
[Then he's almost upon her, and she automatically falls into a defensive posture, whirling her remaining Peacock Slasher in a tight circuit, ready to throw it at a moment's notice.]
