Week 5 | Tuesday
[This is Sanji's first time calling on Dragon specifically, so... yeah, might be a tad bit nervous about it. He shoos Nami away into his bedroom for a nap before standing in the fire dorm lounge, the room empty of life save for himself.
Wistfully, he thinks how much he'd prefer for Zelos and himself to survive, if only to have a space of their own. Sure does make their jobs easier.
But anyway -- business first. He concentrates on Dragon's name, even calling out]
Dragon-sama... might I have an audience with you?

Dragon-sama... might I have an audience with you?

no subject
Once he enters, he'll find the throne room. Dragon sits at the far end as she usually does, tilting her head when he enters.]
Back so soon?
no subject
Uh.
[Righting him, and he nods after that, rubbing at the nape of his neck]
Yeah, for a couple of reasons.
... First one was, I was wondering if you could tell me more about Beauty and Beast.
no subject
Regardless, she'll conjure up a chair for him to take so that it's a bit less formal than their normal audiences.]
... I suppose I may, depending on what you wish to know.
no subject
... They were Editors, correct? Meaning they had access to more information than the rest of the group.
So why try and kill you or Tiger-sama?
no subject
[She says this thoughtfully, without room for self-pity.]
It's understandable. They likely thought that killing one of us would probably lead to a better ending. It is not unheard of. After all, she lies.
If you remove the commander of the opposing army, is that not meant to end the war?
It was foolish - and they did not listen to me - but I do not think they were intentionally chaotic.
no subject
[he's probably getting into more... personal questions.
Or maybe not.
The simple truth is Sanji has yet to find true malice in the Tiger, or even why she should be considered a liar against the Dragon's enigmatic truthfulness.]
no subject
The smiles, the pleasantries, it's to win people over.
[Her brow furrows.]
How else could someone be so cheerful in the face of so much suffering? It's disrespectful.
no subject
[he kinda... smiles, surprisingly.]
Maybe so, but I find the people who smile the hardest are the ones who hurt the most.
They just hate it when someone else can see them suffering.
[... But he's not hear to preach. Whatever Tiger and Dragon feel towards each other is... mmm. Well, Sanji won't pretend he has the power to help that.]
... That sorta, uh... brings me to my next question.
[Feeling a bit nervous again]
... Is there any happy ending for you and Tiger-sama?
no subject
She doesn't answer his question, because first, her brow furrows.]
... I have known for her so many years that I have lost track.
You have a kind heart, and that is a wonderful thing.
She will use you, and toss you aside without remorse.
Be wary of how easily you trust.
no subject
[Voice musing, slowly getting lost in memories]
I guess I am that kinda guy, aren't I? [An almost amused laugh] The moment I wind up back home, my fiancé's gonna shoot me and my blood relatives.
I... keep thinking I should be angry about that.
[A shrug, then a smile]
It's alright. I don't know what the deal is with you two, but I figure you're the ones with the hardest jobs here. My only wish is to get everyone back home. So even if she uses me, maybe I can... I dunno. Make her smile a little.
no subject
[And she opens her mouth to say more - but she finds herself stopped, and that makes her frown for a moment.
Seemingly, she drops the subject and turns back around to his original question.]
... Her happy ending is if she wins.
My happy ending is if all of you get to live the lives you wan to, and I get to rest.
[She hopes he understands.]
no subject
Well, that's enough to wipe the smile off of his face, briefly. He watches her with some measure of concern.]
Then you're saying that her goal is more concerned with beating you than whatever might happen to us?
no subject
[For a moment, her gaze goes far - and it drifts out the window.]
... but it has always been about her.
no subject
[But does he really? It might just be a filler answer as he thinks to himself.]
... Were you always in this role, then? As the Dragon?
no subject
[She frowns faintly.]
However I have been Dragon for so long, that if not for my fondness and love for it, that time might not matter in comparison.
no subject
Tiger, though she had tried to hide it, seemed to have had the same sentiment.]
... Can you back to that life? If the war ends?
no subject
[She smiles ruefully.]
It is not a time that I miss, only the people - and they would be cross if I rewrote the ending of their story just to live through a time that has expired.
I think simply... my time has expired, and I would like to see that ending.
no subject
... Why?
Why does it have to be you and Tiger-sama in the first place?
[He just sounds. Sad? Very sad.]
Why didn't you get a chance to rest after the other wars?
no subject
The victor of the war gets a coveted prize.
I will own the harm that I have caused, and the mistakes that I have made. I want to make them right before I go.
But do not mistake her for a victim in someone else's game when she chose to begin this.
no subject
no subject
She will tell you that it is lies, of course.
Yet her actions will speak louder than words - and each one is self-serving.
no subject
This is a lot to hear, and Sanji cannot help that his expression falls a bit.]
She set this all up so she could get her hands on the prize?
no subject
For her own use.
I admire and appreciate ambition and determination and choice -
... but too many people have not been able to choose their own fates since the beginning of these wars. I cannot forgive her.
no subject
[Rubbing his neck]
Sorry, I know talking about this shit is probably draining. I guess I'm just trying to figure out... why it's gotta be this way.
no subject
[ . . . ]
I know you are seeking answers, and I wish I could give them all to you. I don't hide out of malice, but rather... constraints for the purpose of the story.
But if it gives you peace of mind, I will continue to do my best.
I want you to be well, even after all we ask.
no subject
It's fine.
Honestly, that's enough for me today. I had a more important question I wanted to ask you.
[...]
What's your favorite dish?
no subject
A blink.
Another blink.]
... I beg your pardon?
no subject
[OBVIOUSLY]
no subject
she's
flustered]
... do you ask out of obligation?
You owe me nothing... It feels wrong to say.
no subject
I cook because I enjoy it.
It's a chef's job, anyway, to spread whatever happiness he can through his cooking.
no subject
It is small, but his words manage to get her to smile. A bit of amusement reaches her eyes.]
... I do not believe you are only capable of that through your cooking. You as a person seem very capable of spreading happiness.
[ . . . ]
I like banana nut bread.
no subject
makes Sanji hope that maybe he'll make it to the finish line, after all.
It's a nice dream, isn't it?]
Banana nut bread it is~!
