Friday | Post-Investigation
[Sanji hasn't had a chance to interact with Souji since earlier this week, but that doesn't mean he hasn't been watching. His reaction to Hijikata's death had been... startling, frankly, Sanji not even realizing how close the two men were, and all he can think about afterward is that the man's fragile health will undoubtedly take a hit from all of this.
It's why eventually Sanji will seek him out in his bedroom, a small meal in tow - just soup, a little bit of bread, tea... foods that will be gentle on the stomach and hopefully easy to digest.
Knock knock, Souji, you have a visitor.]

Knock knock, Souji, you have a visitor.]

Ah-- Sanji-san?
[There's a little bukii from his pig behind him. Souji carefully steps to the side, inviting his poor friend in. Life is hard when your friends keep getting murdered and people keep raiding your kitchen for murder tools and then setting it on fire.]
no subject
-- But more importantly? Yikes. Souji looks like shit and that concern from before rockets.]
The hell have you been doing the last couple of days?
[His tone is far, far more gentle than the words would indicate, Sanji placing the tray of food down so he can round back to Souji and get a better look at him]
Did you sleep at all?
no subject
IN ANY CASE even though the tone is gentle, Souji still looks a little bit like a kid getting scolded. A lot of people had reminded him to take care of himself and he had promptly done Not That because his one actual babysitter is now DEAD!!
Still, he folds his hands together, not quite meeting Sanji's eyes as he looks this idiot over.]
...Not much. It's not easy for me to stay asleep normally.
[So with all the stress from yesterday and leading into today, he's had A Time. Still, between the questions and the food brought along:]
I'm sorry, I didn't mean to worry you.
no subject
Concern aside, Sanji doesn't have a right to judge here. Eventually he sighs and nods over to the other's bed so he can sit.]
I'm sure food's the last thing on your mind, but don't you go dying on us, either. You can drink the soup, it'll go down easy.
[Guess Sanji's his babysitter now! B|]
no subject
But Souji will at least not be fussy about things, moving to sit when gestured to do so. Saizo hops up onto the bed after him, settling at his side.]
I won't. [Die, that is.] Not until I find the person who killed Hijikata-san.
[So he should probably eat, then. After a second, he'll reach for the bowl.]
...Thank you.
[He's been quite the burden over these past two days.]
no subject
It's my job to feed people who need to eat, so don't worry about it.
[Taking a seat next to him, folding his hands across his lap]
... I am sorry that this happened, though.
[Sorry isn't going to bring back his vice-captain, but still. Sanji wants to offer condolences]
We'll find the bastard who did this.
no subject
Saizo also gently headbutts Sanji's leg when he sits. It's probably some sort of "thank you" in angry pig language.]
Mm. [Not a verbal thanks, but he hopes his gratitude can still be heard. Even if condolences won't bring Hijikata back, they're still a kindness. One he honestly doesn't feel like he deserves, given how useless he was when his vice-commander really needed him.]
...I'm concerned. Three people have been killed this week.
[Which is concerning for a lot of reasons?!]
no subject
It's also the hard truth. Their castle is practically in a state of emergency.]
Yeah, that's more than we've seen before... [People sure are getting bold.]
And on top of that, there's no way to tell if they were all done by the same people or no.
no subject
We'll be able to get a count of the culprits as usual, I'd imagine. Still... I'm worried about that. Did you notice that when Dave was killed, we were told there were two culprits?
[But as far as they know, neither Ann nor Akechi were involved in Dave's murder. Now, with more bodies showing up in a similar fashion...]
no subject
[He'd admittedly forgot, but now that it's been brought up--]
Were you the one who found the kid back then? I remember someone saying there wasn't much evidence to go off of, either.
no subject
[THIS IS THE SECOND BODY HE'S FOUND IN 4 WEEKS, HE'S CURSED.]
From what I was told of Hijikata-san, and what I saw with Monika... They all seem similar. No signs of a struggle, nothing in the area out of place.
[Just... a dead body, and that's all.]
no subject
... Coincidences are rarely that. So I wouldn't be surprised if there's a pattern going on.
[Hm.]
Someone's ability, maybe?
no subject
It might be something like that. No one could be sure what it is, though... Not unless whoever holds that ability told someone else, and they decide to speak up.
[Which, considering Dave's killer is still a big ol' mystery, he's assuming won't happen.]
no subject
Being honest is dangerous in this castle.
[And Sanji is no stranger to being a snake when he's gotta be, but this? Is just insane.]
no subject
[Souji is an honest person by nature, even if honesty doesn't always have a place in their ranks. The fact that they all have to hide things from each other even at the risk of missing out on accurately identifying a killer is, quite frankly, an awful thing.]
...I don't know what we can do about it, though.
no subject
[He hasn't told many people this, but if they're going to discuss trust and the lack of it, Sanji figures... it's fine for now.]
What those two goddesses expect from us, what exactly a "win" and "loss" looks like, if there are any shitty loopholes...
[A sigh. He stares at his hands]
Not to say I've made much leeway, but I figure if I can talk to one of the Historians, then I can get a sense of what this all means, and pass it onto the group.
no subject
I've been trying to do something similar.
[Something he also hasn't told many people - not beyond the ones he initially trusted, who shared similar ideals about wanting to tamp down on their losses as quickly as possible. But they're getting nowhere, despite the time that's passed. He turns the bowl in his hands, frowning thoughtfully.]
I take it that you haven't found a Historian to discuss any of this with, then.
no subject
Half the group might consider the Historians traitors, so putting themselves out there is dangerous. Still, if they know more than we do, the first step is finding someone whose willing to talk, and then listen.
[Even if the truth might not make them happy.]
no subject
[As someone who's used to taking actions based on what others demand of him, this strange cycle of no one seeming to know the next step is definitely getting to him.
He sighs after that - the sound rattles a little in his chest. Then, finally, a small sip of the soup Sanji had offered.]
...It's very good.
no subject
Thanks.
[...]
Oi... whatever you're sick with... is there any food that can help with the symptoms?
no subject
Sanji really is kind, though. There's a smile, finally - much softer and more delicate-looking than his usual ones, but appreciative. Not much point in waving it off as a simple cold to someone who's already guessed that isn't the case, right?]
...Not that I'm aware of. I would take medication for it back home, but it didn't work very well either, honestly. It just made my tea bitter.
no subject
If neither of those can help, then...]
Let's stick with easy to digest foods, then. No need to make your body work overtime.
[...]
I can guarantee the shit'll taste good, if nothing else.
no subject
My least favorite part was always how bad health food tasted. [Said in the gentle tone of a tired joke.] I don't think you could make food that tasted bad even if you tried, though.
no subject
[Reaching over, giving the man a gentle pat on the shoulder]
Did you ever tell me your favorite food to eat?
no subject
Soup is fine, but... thank you.
no subject
Another pause... then he pats Souji on the shoulder one more time before standing.]
I gotta head back to the kitchen for a while, but I'll drop by again to pick up the dishes.
Take it easy, alright?
no subject
I will. Thank you again, Sanji-san... I appreciate it.
[He's mcstruggling but he'll be fine, just fine, a bad week won't get him down...!!!]
